From an accidental waiter at Pinbone to wine seller at ground breaking Brawn in London and 10 William Street here in Sydney. Now a market gardener and wine bar owner with his wife Clare in Daylesford, Victoria. Andy has packed a lot in over the years, his passion and drive for quality, sustainability and deliciousness always guiding the way.
He is now making a small spread of wines from quality fruit from Chapoutier's Landsborough Valleyand Shay's Flat blocks in Victoria alongside the Cooper Family of Cobaw Ridge and their son Josh, at their winery in Macedon. This first release sees Andy and Clare striving for pure expressions of Grenache and Cabernet Rose from the 2021 vintage.
"Grenache is a variety I adore", says Andy, "so I have decided to ferment the grapes as 100% whole clusters as this is a motif across so many of my favourite Grenache wines that I like to drink".
Handled gently and with a little foot stomping, this has been fermented in open top tanks and then sent to old foudre after pressing. Supple and juicy with elegance and a fine mineral and savoury edge, this is a wine that wants you to drink more of it, effortless in its appeal and gentle fluidity, nicely structured and eminently drinkable.
