Bell Hill is a very personal and passionate project from Sherwyn Veldhuizen and Marcel Giesen. What started as a working relationship became more than that, and if they wished to work together going forward they had to start their own label. Moving further North from where Giesen is situated up into the Limestone hills of Waikari.
A former Limestone quarry site they have taken their time on clonal selections and rootstock choices, starting with a very moderst 2.5 hectares. Their vision was so strong and ahead of the curve, Pyramid Valley set up in the same area some 5 years after them. Its all about the details, moving slowly, choosing carefully and precisely and the proof is in the Chardonnay and Pinot Noirs that they have been producing, even in the infancy, their vision and skill was writ large in the bottle.
This Limeworks Chardonnay is a barrel blend of 3 parcels from Limeworks block from plantings of 1999 and 2009 and has produced the sum total of 639 bottles, a rare bird indeed.
Energetic, nervy and with poise, The older chardonnay really showing the site expression, oyster shell and saline with wet stone and mineral on the nose. Elegant and salivating the core radiating tension and delicate florals giving exceptional length. This is a remarkable wine from a very special place.
Individually boxed with complete tasting notes and tech details from the vineyard.
