Bell Hill is a very personal and passionate project from Sherwyn Veldhuizen and Marcel Giesen. What started as a working relationship at Giesen became more than that, and if they wished to work together going forward they had to start their own label. Moving further North from where Giesen is situated up into the Limestone hills of Waikari.
A former Limestone quarry site they have taken their time on clonal selections and rootstock choices, starting with a very modest 2.5 hectares. Their vision was so strong and ahead of the curve, Pyramid Valley set up in the same area some 5 years after them. It's all about the details, moving slowly, choosing carefully and precisely and the proof is in the Chardonnay and Pinot Noirs that they have been producing, even in the infancy, their vision and skill is writ large in the bottle.
Lifted earthy nose, with light herbs and vibrant red fruit. The classic sous bois, moderately structured with unctuous blue fruits, mineral tones and a touch of iron laced with long fine tannins. This runs long fine and pure.
