Claude Marechal started his estate in 1980 having 10 hectares spread across six different communes of the Cote de Beaune. These are not simple wines of what is seen as a humble appellate, these are pure and polished wines that are standard bearers of place and type.
Honing his craft under the tutelage and teachings of the late great Henri Jayer, Claude seeks to make his wines as naturally as possible, eschewing the use of unnecessary machinery and synthetic components. Striving to always make wines that are elegant and approachable in their youth yet to have the ability to evolve and show their evocative side with age has Claude almost always being the last to harvest in the commune, looking for pure but balanced fruit forward notes that truly express the season.
2018 was a generous fruit forward vintage which has again proved to be an excellent year of superb quality for Claude and Catherine. Bright sensual nose, expansive silky palate with plenty of nuance and clarity with all the sunshine and warmth of the vintage in the glass. Textbook wine from one of the great and affordable estates of Burgundy, two things that very rarely get put in the same sentence.
