La Cadette is a small domaine in Burgundy's north owned by Catherine and Jean Montanet with the wines now being made by their son Valentin.
In 1987, Catherine, the youngest in her family, cleared and replanted 12.5 hectares of vines on the hillsides of Vezelay to work organically which they received AOC status in 1997 when it was finally created for Vezelay.
Today, the vineyard is spread over 18 plots in the 4 communes of the appellation: Asquins, Saint-Père, Tharoiseau and Vézelay, working with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Melon de Bourgogne and the rare grape Cesar which is an ancient varietal of Roman introduction permissible in Yonne.
Les Saulniers is a fresh and vibrant Chardonnay from a small picturesque plot that is laden with chalk and limestone bringing a fine mineral edge. Vibrant yellow citrus fleshed with orchard fruits and braced by a keen line of acidity and fine structure make this exceptional value from a region that is priced so extravagantly.
