Established almost by accident in the early 70's Leeuwin Estate is one of the great family run Estates in not just Australia but the world.  One of the pioneering estates in the much heralded Margaret River region has received accolades by the truck load  for its impressive spread of wines but also the quality of its cellar door, restaurant and world class art gallery.

With the help of Robert Mondavi as its original consultant Leeuwin has been a pace setter. The Art series Chardonnay has long been the darling of the Estate but the Cabernet for those in the know has always been seen as exceptional quality and an undervalued star of the region. The unirrigated, Houghton-clone vines are low-yielding and based around the original Block 8 vineyard planted in 1975.

The Art Series label was not bestowed on the cabernet till the mid 80's so these early vintages do not get the honour.

This 1980 has aged excellently, soft notes of bramble and spice box and a little garrigue and a touch of mineral underneath all bound up in soft leather with excellent tannins softly pulling everything together.

These bottles are of very high shoulder fill levels with excellent labels.
