Bodegas López de Heredia is one of the world’s great wine estates. Founded in 1877 by Don Rafael López de Heredia y Landeta, it remains safely in family hands to this day. Their sizeable are planted to Tempranillo mainly, Graciano, Garnacha and Mazuelo for the reds and Viura with Malvasia for the whites. with some vines reaching 80-100 years old naturally keeping yields low and quality and complexity high.

Time is of no consequence at this estate, a wine is released only when it's deemed ready, irrespective of any other factors, nothing is rushed for the sake of it. Every wine spends its requisite time in seasoned oak plus extended bottle ageing for it then to pass a final inspection of readiness.

The single vineyard Tondonia was planted in 1913 and its wines are only produced in the exceptional years, bursting with energy and finesse despite their age on release compared to other estates.

The blend is 75% tempranillo with 15% garnacha and 10% graciano and mazuelo spending six years in barrel (just one would satisfy the region’s regulations) and several more than the required two in bottle before release. The subtle, authentic, mellow and mahogany-coloured result is generous and appealing with smoky leathery flavours, a fine structure and powerful nose that draws you in to a wine of remarkable vibrance.
