Romain le Bars is the understudy you probably hadn't heard of until he had his breakout performance. He moved to the Gard in the Southern Rhone to take up a position with Eric Pfifferling, a position he held for 7 years until a small parcel of vines came up for sale.
Having purchased that first plot and with the help of Eric to locate some more fruit in the surrounding area to manage, Romain set about making wine for himself very quickly in his garage in 2018, with an assistant of his own, one of Eric's two sons Thibault.
Clearly taking some cues from his mentor, these first steps have seen Romain burst out of the blocks with wines of supple fruit, heady perfume and a tension and energy that bring you back for more.
Equal parts Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault with a splash of Ugni Blanc. A slight chill is deemed essential here for maximum enjoyment, this wine straddling that maxim of Romain not seeing his wine as white or red. Bright, crunchy, energetic yet with complexity, don't be fooled by a relatively playful nature, this is wine to wrap your thoughts around as well as your tongue. Spiced cola and cinnamon with a savoury core and smoky mineral edge.
