Working exclusively with shiraz from the revered Hoffmann Vineyard for this label, Sami-Odi, Fraser McKinley has reinterpreted the possibilities of what the Barossa can be and the story it can tell, drawing on his background in fine arts to aid this vision and tell his part.
Sourced from small plots of vines (some significantly old), which he tends with organic principles, his wines are made using only whole bunches, with no adds bar a touch of sulphur. Blending is how Fraser tells his story, pulling the components of these remarkable parcels together is more important to him than vintage or varietal, hence these details are obscured or just not there on his labels.
Our inaugural bottling from our home hillside on the south side of Angaston in the Eden Valley. We began clearing, preparing and terracing this site in 2015. The following year I wrote to my favourite vineyard owners within the Barossa requesting to take cuttings from their old Shiraz blocks. It says much of the Barossa community that all responded very positively and between May & August 2016 I cut and collected 4000 cuttings. In October 2017 we planted 3000 of these cuttings over three blocks totalling 0.53 Hectare.
The first crop harvested (4 x 228lt barrels) in March 2020 and bottled our favourite 3 barrels in October 2021.
The yield was 25 hectolitres per hectare.
815 bottles were filled.
