Roberto Oliván is the force behind Tentenublo, a fourth generation grape farmer of the area that is the first in his family to bottle under his own label.
He is one of the growing number of winemakers who are much more interested in making compelling wines of interest than large volumes through a cooperative system. The altitude of the Roberto's vineyards really do help inform the style of his wines bringing a cool fineness to his production.
Veriquete is from a small plot nearly 600 Mtrs up in the Cantabrian foot hills. A blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha and just a splash of Viura from vines that are 50-100 years old. A vibrant nose of blue fruits tinged with violets, full-bodied, juicy red and black fruits, traces of mountain herbs, keenly structured with good fluidity and concentration, balanced by good acidity.
A fascinating snap-shot of modern Rioja.
