When the 1855 classification was made, Lafite was listed first among the four first growths earning the reputation 'First among the Firsts’. It's a regal reputation that has stayed with them ever since, possibly no other estate in the world of wine has been revered for so long by enthusiasts and professionals alike. Blessed with exceptional terroir that has been coupled with exacting standards and very low yields firmly aimed at exceptional quality year on year.
The Estate started by Jaques de Segur back in the 17th century, has a history that makes interesting reading, joined by marriage to both Lafite and Latour plus changing hands a score of times. Stability and amazing prosperity came in 1868, when Baron James de Rothschild bought the domaine at auction and it has remained in his family ever since.
Reserved yet showing finesse, elegance and depth on release, its Lafite's ability to grow and evolve in the cellar over a 20 - 30 year period that separates them from their peers, and what backs up that centuries old dictum 'First among the Firsts', they craft wines that seem to defy the decades.
These rare gems have been received in their original timber cases, excellent of label and with fill levels into the base of the neck.
