Franck Lihour of Domaine Castera is part of a new generation of vignerons in the Jurançon AOC of South-West France, that are determined to showcase just how good their terroir, and the resulting wines can be.
The Domaine has been in the Lihour family since 1885 when it was purchased by Frank’s great grandfather. Franck’s father Christian took over the Domaine around three decades ago and was the first to really prioritise winemaking. He grew the vineyard area to 11.5 hectares and sold all of the wine in bottle. The wines of Domaine Castera quickly gained a reputation for quality.
From 2014 Frank has brought organic and biodynamic practices to the Domaine, working on farming and soil health, lowering yields along with the amount of sulphur used and returning to indigenous yeasts for fermentation.
From the Caubeigt vineyard, vines planted between 1977 - 2000. Taken from parcels on steep slopes that best retain acidity and freshness. A delightful dessert wine with an elegant balance of richness and freshness. Candied tropical fruits, blossom and dried apricots showing an elegance and brightness in this sweet wine that make it just as exceptional as its drier siblings.
