In the heart of Gétigné in the Loire, lies Domaine de Bellevue, where Jérôme Bretaudeau produces exceptional cuvées from the local grape variety Melon de Bourgogne along with a little Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Savignin and Merlot.
Bretaudeau is one of a small handful of serious, winemakers devoted to the compelling terroir of Muscadet. Known for his focus, both in the grape varieties he cultivates and in the winemaking techniques he uses where he employs the use of steel, oak vats, casks and barrels plus concrete eggs and clay amphorae whilst seriously regulating his cropping so as to achieve purity and intensity.
This Ornate Merlot reveals a magnificent bouquet of fresh and crunchy fruits with blackcurrant accents. The palate is smooth and silky, evolving into a bright and juicy fruitiness with touches of tobacco and graphite and a long finish that stretches with granitic tension.
This is a merlot unlike any other you have seen.
