Frederic Cossard wasn’t born into a family of vignerons so had to start from scratch, no mean feat in Burgundy. Domaine de Chassorney was born in 1996 with a few hectares of vines rented in Saint Romain and Auxey Duresses and now comprises ten hectares of vines across several villages. He also acts as a négociant, which gives him access to fruit from some of the greatest vineyards in Burgundy. These wines are bottled eponymously, as ‘Frederic Cossard’.
Cossard has worked organically and pesticide free from the beginning, even when purchasing fruit, he guides the grower on how to grow and care for the vines in the same way he does his own, creating lively wines that are vibrant and pure.
Grown on crumbly pink granite soil this is rich and vibrant red in the glass with a nose bright with flowers and berries. Delicious intensity, rich and finely textured with soft tannins and a fine mineral edge. Cossard here proves that either in Burgundy or Beaujolais he is able to coax deft layers of complexity from remarkable fruit with supreme elegance.
