With vineyards dating back to the 40's planted by Aldo's grandfather, the estate of G.D Vajra did not come into true existence until the late 70's when Aldo and Milena bottled wine under their own banner for the first time. Having land in some of the best crus in the region as the starting point, they have slowly added to them over time working slowly and meticulously in a very traditional way without being staunch.

Covering the the classic Piedmontese brace of varietals of Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolceto, Moscato and the far less common Freisa, they have created a domaine that is seen as one of the great producers of the region across several of its top communes.

2018 as a Barolo vintage is approachable, fruit forward deliciousness that is strutting its stuff in all the right ways now. Will it unwind and unfurl with a few more years in a cellar, yes of course, but the drinking pleasure is ready, here and now.

With the Vaira family acquiring Luigi Baudana in 2009 they have added another layer of quality to the estate. This comes from 50-year-old vineyards located 350 metres above sea level. Planted in blue clay soils this shows another aspect to the estate. Mid weighted with depth and character, blood oranges morello cherries and blue flowers with some sweet spices and tannins that are both approachable and open for maximum youthful enjoyment.
