Slovenian born Igor Kucic has been around vineyards and viticulture his entire life, starting with his grandfather in his small family winery in Slovenia through New Zealand, America and France with his final settlement here in the Barossa.
He's worked at great estates at every step, Jonata in the Santa Ynes Valley and at Powell & Son with Dave and Callum Powell, but it's his 4 year stretch at one of the worlds greatest estates, that of Jean Louis Chave, that sits high above them all.
A level head, a deep respect for the vines, their micro climate and the soils on which they grow inform Igor year after year on how his wines will evolve. With holdings in the High Eden & Lyndoch in Barossa as well some plots in the Adelaide Hills, Igor works with the great varietals of the Rhone, Syrah, Marsanne and Rousanne as well as a small crop of Ribolla Gialla as a nod to his family estate back in Slovenia that is slowly coming to maturity.
The 2020 Lyndoch comes from a vineyard planted in 1997 on red clay over limestone. Lush and supple in the mouth, filled with dense red and black fruits with a savouriness brought on from that limestone. Fine and persistent tannin framed with a good fresh acidity bring balance and depth to the structure. There is a lot to like here, Iggy and his small spread of wines are definatley worth keeping an eye on.
