Mataburro is the name of small Domaine established in Roussillon by rising stars Laurent Roger and Melissa Ingrand. Their wines are made natural, showing balance, vibrancy and deliciousness.

Having worked for several years at the venerable Paris bar à vin Le Verre Volé, Laurent returned to Roussillon to work with the one and only Alain Castex, then of Le Casot des Mailloles.

Towards the end of 2017, armed with what he had learned from Castex, he and Melissa took over the remaining three hectare vineyard from his father and are returning it to its organic past. In 2019 they started working in biodynamics, extensively planting cover crops to improve the soil quality and vineyard bio-diversity which was the bedrock of Castex’s teaching.

The Otium is a a cuvee made predominantly from Grenache vines planted in 1949 with a little Grenache Gris and Macabeu (Viura). Hand harvested the grapes undergo a semi-carbonic fermentation keeping freshness from minimal tannin extraction. With the addition of the white grapes this drinks somewhere between a rose and a chilled light red, full of crunchy bright red fruits with zesty citrus notes. Coming in at a cool 12 degrees alcohol proving that such a warm district can produce wines of finesse and balance displaying a slippery and salivating structure that will e perfect for the coming spring and summer months.
