The Rousseaux family has been working a small Grand Cru vineyard since the 18th century, in Verzenay.
Current head of the estate, Adrien, is a 4th generation winemaker and has been managing the estate since 2012. He works with 2.6ha and does not use herbicides or insecticides. He vinifies each parcel separately to create powerful, expressive and age worthy wines that are made from juice from the first pressing 'Coeur de Cuvee'.
Coming from the lieu-dit 'Les Champs Brûlés' this is a rich style rose from 100% Pinot Noir. The richness in this wine speaks very much of the vintage where ripeness and weight are shown beautifully nuanced with its time in oak for elevage.
On the nose is a little grapefruit, a burst of wild strawberry and a touch of hazelnut, while the palate reveals a wonderfully elegant combination of berries and green tea with hints of jasmine and a dry, mineral finish.
Although this champagne is initially a little shy, it develops wonderfully with a little air and warmth and is best served in a larger glass to enjoy all the scents and vinous details.
