Thomas and Charlotte Carsin started this outstanding domaine in Anjou Noir back in 2008 after working around the world as vineyard consultants who specialise in organics.

Purchasing Clos de L’Elu, a 20 hectare site in the Layon Valley near Chaume, they set about a full conversion of the estate, whilst at the same time, stepping away from the predominant sweet wines of the area they focused on dry chenin and suite of excellent reds based in Cabernet Franc and Pineau d'Aunis. The revitalised vineyards have vindicated all of their hard work turning out exceptional wines that are pure and expressive of both grape and place.

The Esperance is a blend of older vines from the 1970's  and a massale selection of younger vines that see time in amphora before being finished in vats before bottling. 

The nose is full of elegance and finesse distinguished by notes of violet and pepper, the palate is redolent of cherry with fresh acidity velvety fruit and a touch of fresh spices. Fine and elegant and utterly delicious, this is an excellent entry to a little known variety of the Loire.
