Utopos is a project that came to be by chance, everything just seemed to fall inot place at the right time. Kym Teusner has been making wine in Barossa for some time now cutting his teeth with both Torbreck and Rolph Binder at Veritas before embarking on Teusner wines in the early oughts to some acclaim.
When a friend from the city wanted to invest in a vineyard, Kym not only found him a vineyard, he found the vineyard he coveted most and just could not pass it up. Where Marananga and Greenock collide sits Utopos, planted in the mid 70's to the regions classics on poor soils that Kym crafts distinctly Barossan reds from estate fruit only, capturing depth and intensity with a deft hand and mineral freshness.
Black fruited and full of spice the grapes come from a number of parcels across the vineyard with varying aspects and soils profiles. Juicy and bright with a fresh edge keeping it poised, a fine web of tannins and a tense core of acidity woven through the darker notes and plushness. Effortless in its delivery of modern Barossa, refined and detailed in its nod to classic wines of this storied region.
