Perfectly positioned in the centre of the Pomerol plateau, with a single block of vines, Vieux Château Certan rubs shoulders with prestigious neighbours such as Petrus, La Conseillante, L'Evangile, and also Certan de May. The domaine was created following the division of the property post the revolution and as such the use of Certan indicates which properties were once part of the larger original estate.
The Thienport family have owned the estate since the 1920's who also owned Troplong-Mondot, bringing about the now iconic pink capsule so as to see who was purchasing their wines which still remains to this day. With Pomerol never having a class system, the wines of the Chateau have long been considered to be some of the best having weight, depth and complexity that highlight the quality of their 14 hectares for both management and terroir.
With 2/3 Merlot and the balance Cabernet Franc these are wines that have richness and volume with spices, cedar and chocolate mixing with bramble black fruits and a much heralded silky texture that age exceedingly well.
Coming from the exceptional year of 1982 this is a bottle of excellent repute, the label near on perfect and the fill level in the neck.
