Yarra Yering is one of the oldest and most beautiful vineyards in Victoria’s Yarra Valley with 28 hectares of vines located at the foot of the Warramate Hills.
Established in 1969 by Dr Bailey Carrodus, the 1973 vintage saw production of the first vintage of Dry Red Wine No. 1 and Dry Red Wine No. 2. Yarra Yering quickly gained an international reputation for quality and individuality.
Where Dry Red 1 is all about the Bordeaux varieties, the Dry Red 2 is Bailey's ode to the Northern Rhone, seductively perfumed and always far lighter in body than you would expect and gloriously so.
96% Shiraz, 3 % Merlot and 1% Viognier is handled in the small vats of Bailey's design that match the basket press capacity. Plenty of whole berries and a small portion of Viognier skins added for that bright elegant perfume. Juicy supple and bright with flowers and spice box notes. The gentle handling brings about a light to medium body thats filled with super fine tannins and a complexity that keeps you digging through the layers.
Elegant and ebullient this is a wine of amazing class.
